Hydrogen–Deuterium Exchange Mass Spectrometry: An Emerging Biophysical Tool for Probing Protein Behaviour and Higher-Order Structure
The higher-order structure of a protein (secondary, tertiary, and quaternary structure) is important for proper biological function. Analytically measuring the HOS properties of a biotherapeutic and understanding the relationships between structure and function are important, because they directly influence a drug's efficacy and safety. This article looks at how hydrogen-deuterium exchange mass spectrometry (HDX-MS), an MS-based labelling approach, has begun to serve as a means for performing routine biophysical analysis. More... |

Effect of Gamma-Ray Sterilization on High Molecular Weight PMMA
Malvern Instruments Ltd.
A sample of PMMA for medical applications was analyzed, before and after sterilization, by size exclusion chromatography with triple detection (SEC-TD) in order to characterize any changes the irradiation brought about. By measuring intrinsic viscosity, cleavage of the polymer at the branching points was identified as the cause of the reduction in molecular weight. This application note provides important information about the process of sterilizing PMMA, as well as the benefits of multi-detector characterization. Read more |
