In this web seminar, we will describe and critically compare the use of comprehensive two-dimensional (2D) gas chromatography (GC×GC) with a single-quadrupole mass spectrometer (MS), against one-dimensional GC in combination with a triple-quadrupole (QQQ) mass spectrometry instrument. The benefits and disadvantages of each methodology will be discussed, illustrated by examples from the field of food analysis. Also, the combination of GC×GC with a triple-quadrupole mass spectrometer will be discussed, along with a series of significant applications. The emphasis will not only be devoted to the potential of GC×GC-QQQ MS, but also to the following question: Does such a combination make sense?
