One often-cited way to reduce Medicare outlays is to make all beneficiaries pay at least some coinsurance on health care services. Last year's health reform legislation took a small step in this direction, and now a Senate bill seeks to prohibit Medigap policies from covering the first $550 in health care costs as a way to make seniors more cost-conscious. Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan (BCBSM) has designated roughly 2,500 physicians in 770 practices across the state as patient-centered medical homes (PCMH), a 28% increase from the 1,800 designated PCMH physicians in 2010. BCBSM says it has built the nation's largest patient-centered medical home program. Read full article.
