Research News: Detecting Nerve Agent Exposure
Scientists at the Norwegian Defence Research Establishment (Kjeller, Norway) in collaboration with the University of Oslo (Oslo, Norway) have presented a novel method for the quantification of nerve agent metabolites in human serum and urine by combining salting-out assisted liquid–liquid extraction (SALLE) and on-line solid-phase extraction–liquid chromatography–tandem mass spectrometry (SPE–LC–MS–MS) in the journal Analytical Chemistry.

HPLC Extra Column Volumes
It is of particular importance to reduce extra column volumes when using small volume columns or UHPLC. However, where do these extra column volumes come from, how can they be minimized, and what effect do they have on chromatography?
