The LCGC Blog: Flow Injection Analysis Can Be Used to Create Temporal Compositional Analyte Gradients for Mass Spectrometry-Based Quantitative Analysis
Flow injection analysis (FIA) is a powerful technique for quantitative analysis, especially in conjunction with mass spectrometry (MS) detection. Kevin Schug discusses how FIA can be combined with MS using electrospray ionization and describes how the technique can be used for analyses such as binding constant determination, multipoint instrument response calibrations, and removing the dependence of measured analyze concentrations on matrix effects. More...

Lung Tissue Fingerprinting
Scientists from San Pablo CEU University (Madrid, Spain) have developed a non-targeted global fingerprinting approach for lung tissue samples by performing three analytical methods — liquid chromatography coupled to mass spectrometry (LC–MS), gas chromatography coupled to MS (GC–MS), and capillary electrophoresis coupled to MS (CE–MS). Published in the journal Analytical Chemistry, the study details the development and validation of the multi-platform approach using 20 mg of lung tissue. More...

Improving GPC Reproducibility and Resolution in Polymer Characterization
Tuesday, January 14, 2014, 1:00 PM EST
Increasing challenges in polymer characterization may require methods that provide more detail on the polymers as well as greater accuracy and reproducibility. Selecting the best GPC solution – column, detector and method – can be difficult. This presentation will review column and instrument technologies that provide potential solutions to increase resolution, reduce variability in chromatographic results, and provide enhanced detail in every analysis.
