Analyzing Alberta's Oil Sands
Alberta’s oil sands produce 1.9 million barrels of oil each day and contributes to 55% to all Canadian crude production. This industrial activity poses a potential threat to the regional environment, with concerns over potential water contamination from toxic chemicals. LCGC spoke to Jonathan W. Martin, an associate professor from the Division of Analytical and Environmental Toxicology at the University of Alberta (Alberta, Canada)  about the analytical challenges he faces and solves in this research. Analysis of Trace Contaminants of Emerging Concern in Water
In this webinar, environmental researchers from Université de Montréal discuss an optimized method for sample collection, preparation, and analysis using online SPE LC/MS that allows for detection of low concentration compounds in parts per trillion (ppt) in several water matrices. Understand the advantages of online SPE for detection of low concentration compounds in our comprehensive 233-page Environmental Applications Compendium. Learn more

Significant Improvements in Pesticide Residue Analysis in Food Using the QuEChERS Method
The quick, easy, cheap, effective, rugged, and safe (QuEChERS) sample preparation procedure combined with both gas chromatography–mass spectrometry (GC–MS) and liquid chromatography–mass spectrometry (LC–MS) was adopted in a laboratory for the analysis of pesticide residues in food samples as part of the state of Connecticut's regulatory monitoring program. In 2006, data from a QuEChERS-based sample preparation procedure were compared to data from our previous analytical method. More...

LCGC E-Book: Advances in GC-MS Analysis of Pesticides
