According to the American Diabetes Association, 18.8 million people in the United States have been diagnosed with diabetes, and another 7 million are thought to have the disease but have not yet been diagnosed. An additional 79 million Americans have prediabetes, which is a condition that indicates that the patient has a high risk for developing diabetes. The majority of patients with diabetes are 20 years old or older, of whom about 13 million are men and 12.6 million are women. In 2010, about 1.9 million people aged 20 years or older were newly diagnosed with diabetes. » Full article
