Hydroxycarbamide beneficial for infants with sickle-cell anemia

Administering hydroxycarbamide to very young children with sickle-cell anemia reduces common but serious adverse effects, particularly pain and dactylitis, and results in lower rates of acute chest syndrome, hospital admissions, and transfusions. Gaming devices, mobile phones put children at risk for wrist, finger pain

Playing Xbox and Game Boy systems for long periods of time and frequently using mobile phones for texting are associated with wrist and finger pain in children, according to a study presented at the European League Against Rheumatism (EULAR) 2011 Annual Congress in London. Read full article.

Aggressive resuscitation at delivery does not adversely affect long-term outcome

For very-low-birth-weight (VLBW) infants who receive intense resuscitation at delivery, long-term prognosis for neurodevelopmental disability remains low despite elevated risk for bronchopulmonary dysplasia (BPD) and retinopathy of prematurity (ROP), according to a new study. Read full article.
