Primary care patient with 2-year history of symptoms of overactive bladder
Overactive bladder is a prevalent condition that affects both women and men and has a substantial impact on health-related quality of life. This interactive case is typical of patients with lower urinary tract dysfunction.

After completion, participants should be better able to describe the pathophysiology of OAB, including differences between men and women, and its relevance to clinical management strategies; identify effective and sensitive communication strategies to discuss OAB with patients; develop a clinically feasible screening process for OAB based on identified risk factors; describe the diagnostic process for OAB, including appropriate criteria for specialty testing; identify key conclusions regarding benefits and limitations of pharmacologic and nonpharmacologic therapies in OAB based on current evidence; set appropriate treatment goals in OAB and assess response using a validated instrument; integrate appropriate pharmacologic and nonpharmacologic therapies based on individualized risk-benefit analysis; develop appropriate follow-up plans, including assessment of treatment adherence; and describe appropriate roles of PCPs, OB/GYNs, and urologists in diagnosis and treatment of OAB, including criteria for specialty referral. » Go to this activity
