Managing ocular surface and lid margin disease in patients undergoing cataract and refractive surgery
After completing this activity which is based on a roundtable discussion held during the 2009 American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery Meeting, participants will have improved their ability to describe the prevalence of blepharitis and ocular surface disease in patients undergoing cataract or refractive surgery and the potential impact of these conditions on postsurgical outcomes; list the elements of a presurgery eye examination; summarize the current evidence supporting aggressive treatment of blepharitis, dry eye, and allergy in the preoperative setting; describe intraoperative treatment and postoperative rehabilitation to reduce the risk of postoperative complications in patients with ocular surface disease who undergo cataract or refractive surgery, and review monitoring strategies to improve management during the postoperative period.
