Human Papillomavirus (American College of Physicians PIER)
The quadrivalent human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine should be recommended for females aged 11 to 12 years and catch-up vaccination should be recommended for or to females aged 13 to 26 years who have not been previously vaccinated.

Genital HPV represents the most commonly acquired sexually transmitted infection, and sequelae of infection of the female genital tract with high-risk HPV subtypes include cervical dysplasia and squamous cell carcinoma. Clinical trials indicate that the HPV vaccine has high efficiency in preventing persistent HPV infection and cervical cancer precursor lesions caused by multiple HPV types among women who have not already been infected with the respective HPV type.

This activity is presented in the context of patients of both sexes and reviews HPV prevention, screening to detect HPV-related cytologic abnormalities or HPV-related cancer, diagnosis of genital or cutaneous warts and HPV-related neoplasia, consultation for diagnosis, available surgical modalities and drug therapies, patient education, management consultation, and follow-up issues.
