Women’s Ride Day is fast approaching
In continuing with Harley-Davidson’s recently created yet highly popular tradition, this May we celebrate the 3rd annual Women Riders Month. As part of Women Riders Month, ladies from across the globe will come together to celebrate Women’s Ride Day, on May 14, 2011. This year, we invite ladies in the largest cities and smallest towns in every country to get out and ride. Head out solo, organize something with your friends, or check out what’s happening at your local Harley-Davidson dealer.

Honda introduces more 2012 models
American Honda Motor Company introduces another wave of machines for the 2012 model year, which include several motocross machines, a dual-sport, a selection of small-displacement recreational off-road bikes, and more! To read up on this timely Spring release of new Honda machinery, Click Here.

Brammo unveils six-speed electric motorcycles
As gas prices continue climbing into uncharted territory, many companies are attempting to fulfill increasing consumer demand for green vehicles by introducing a wider variety of eco-friendly modes of transportation. Of those leading the charge, Brammo recently announced that it will offer electric motorcycles with six-speed transmissions, developed by Italian company SMRE. Four models featuring the Integrated Electric Transmissions (IET) will go into production next year. To learn about these new models, Click Here.

Ride in Peace: Jeff ‘Ox’ Kargola
Jeff “Ox” Kargola, a freestyle motocross racer with Metal Mulisha, died April 29th after suffering injuries from an off-road motorcycling crash in Mexico. He was just 27 years old. Kargola was in Mexico to compete in the Rip to the Tip event. Read More about this tragic loss to the motocross community.


Retracing the ‘Cannon Ball’ Baker Run
In 1914, Erwin G. Baker took off from San Diego, CA on a two-speed Indian V-twin with the goal of riding to New York. Baker astonished the world when he completed the 3,378-mile route a full 9 days faster than any previous coast-to-coast motorcycle rides. Now, Don Emde, winner of the 1972 Daytona 200 and Editor-in-Chief of Parts Magazine, has announced the beginning of a new multi-year project to retrace and document the route of that monumental 11 ½ day ride by America’s first true Adventurebike rider, “Cannon Ball” Baker. New York show attendee wins Ride for Kids®/Cycle World motorcycle drawing
Giovanni Velez of Lakewood, N.J., bought one ticket for this year’s Ride for Kids®/Cycle World project bike drawing at the New York Progressive International Motorcycle Show five months ago. Luck was on his side on May 2, when his name was chosen at random from more than 20,000 entries. He was stunned to learn that he had won the Honda CBR1000RR, which custom builder Gregg DesJardins had transformed into a retro racer called the “Catalyst.” Find out more about the “Catalyst” and Ride for Kids®, which supports the Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation®.

Rickey Gadson hosts charity ride for Pediatric Diabetes
Calling all riders! Be part of a potentially record-breaking charity motorcycle ride as Rickey Gadson leads the pack to Atlantic Beach Bike Week 2011. 100% of donations will go to the aid and research of one of the largest pediatric diabetes centers in the country, the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia’s (C.H.O.P.) Diabetes Center for Children (DCC). The ride will originate in Philadelphia, stopping in MD, VA, NC, and concluding in Myrtle Beach, SC. Tennessee volunteer group posts “Watch for Motorcycles” signs
Riders in Blount County, Tenn., are getting a little extra attention in the hope of preventing accidents. New “Watch for Motorcycles” signs have been cropping up around the area, as part of a recent campaign by the Motorcycle Awareness Foundation of Tennessee (MAFT), to heighten public awareness of motorcycle riders. Find out more about what these riders have accomplished to increase safety for other riders in the area.

Electric motorcycle range protocol set by MIC
Consumers looking for consistent and accurate information about the real-world riding range of electric on-highway motorcycles may soon find help from a new procedure developed by the Motorcycle Industry Council (MIC). The City Riding Range Test Procedure for Electric Motorcycles, created by the MIC's Electric Vehicle Task Force, establishes a standard method for determining how far an electric bike will travel between full charges. Virginia Tech students design ‘childproof’ ATV ignition lock
Four students at Virginia Tech College of Engineering have developed a child-proof interlock system to prevent children from starting adult-sized ATVs. The ignition safety lock system is multi-tiered – based on weight, cognitive ability and sitting position – making it virtually impossible for a child 10 years old or younger to start the vehicle by him/herself.
