Senate Community Pharmacy Caucus formed

In late June, Sens. Jerry Moran (R-KS) and Jon Tester (D-MT) established the first Senate Community Pharmacy Caucus, to serve as an advocate for community pharmacy issues and as a clearinghouse of information for senators, staff, and other interested parties. Read full article.

FDA approves Xarelto to help prevent DVT in patients undergoing knee- or hip-replacement surgery

FDA has approved rivaroxaban tablets, a novel, once-daily, oral anticoagulant for the prevention of DVT, which may lead to a pulmonary embolism in people undergoing knee- or hip-replacement surgery. Xarelto is the only new oral anticoagulant with FDA approval for this indication. Read full article.

NACDS urges FDA to streamline patient medication information

The National Association of Chain Drug Stores (NACDS) is urging FDA to streamline patient medication information. In a recent letter to FDA, NACDs said FDA should expeditiously develop, adopt, and implement a "One-Document Solution." Read full article.

Labeling mixup leads to Qualitest recall of hydrocodone/
acetaminophen tablets

Generic manufacturer Qualitest recently recalled several lots of drugs, including hydrocodone bitartrate and acetaminophen tablets, because of a labeling mixup. Read full article.

MTM and Medicare Part D high congressional priorities, says NACDS

Passing the MTM Empowerment Act and expanding Medicare Part D coverage should be Congress's focus this session, says the National Association of Chain Drug Stores, which recently submitted a statement during a hearing of the U.S. Senate Finance Committee focusing on the financial future of Medicare and Medicaid.
