CDC panel recommends nasal spray flu vaccines for some children

A panel that advises the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has recommended healthy children between the ages of 2 and 8 receive nasal spray flu vaccines instead of flu shots. The Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices said its recommendation is based on studies that suggest the nasal spray flu shot provides better protection for this age group.

The panel would prefer children ages 2 to 8 receive the nasal flu shot, but said the regular flu shot should be administered to these children if the nasal spray version is not available.
